1. What Are Cookies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how you use the site. Cookies can be set by the site you are visiting ("first-party cookies") or by third-party services that the site uses.
This policy explains what cookies UnityFreak uses, why we use them, and how you can control them. UnityFreak is operated by Nemesis Gaming, 61 Bridge Street, Kington, HR5 3DJ, United Kingdom, which is responsible for the cookies described here. For more information on how we handle your personal data, see our Privacy Policy.
2. Cookies We Use
We use three categories of cookies on UnityFreak. The table below lists every cookie the Platform sets. Optional categories are off until you choose them in the cookie banner.
Essential Cookies
These cookies are required for the Platform to function and cannot be switched off. They keep you signed in, protect forms and requests from forgery, and remember your cookie choice. We also treat a cookie as essential where it only carries something you asked for during the same journey, such as the plan you picked on the pricing page.
Preference Cookies
These cookies remember choices you made so the Platform feels familiar when you return. They are optional: we set them only if you allow Preference cookies. Your light or dark theme, and a record of your cookie choice, are kept in your browser's local storage rather than in a cookie.
Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how the Platform is used so we can improve it, and record which referral link (if any) brought you to a marketplace asset. They are optional: we set them only if you allow Analytics cookies.
Every cookie we set
Cookies set by UnityFreak| Cookie | Purpose | Duration | Category |
|---|
access_token | Keeps you signed in. A short-lived sign-in token, renewed while you stay signed in. | 15 minutes | Essential |
refresh_token | Renews your sign-in so you are not asked to log in again every few minutes. | 7 days | Essential |
has_session | A flag that tells our pages you are signed in, so the right view loads. | 7 days | Essential |
onboarding_complete | Records whether you have finished account setup so we can send you to the right page. | 7 days | Essential |
csrf_token | Protects forms and requests from cross-site request forgery. Set when you first interact with the Platform. | 24 hours | Essential |
cookie_consent | Remembers your cookie banner choice (analytics allowed or not). | 1 year | Essential |
uf_plan_intent | Carries the plan you picked on the pricing page through sign-up so we can continue to checkout. Set only when you pick a plan. | 30 minutes | Essential (a feature you asked for) |
uf_view_as | Lets a UnityFreak administrator preview the Platform as a regular user. Never set for ordinary visitors. | Session | Essential (administrators only) |
uf_persona | Remembers which audience page (for example learner or freelancer) you chose, so we show it again when you return. | 1 year | Preferences (optional) |
uf_waitlisted | Remembers that you joined the waitlist, so we stop showing waitlist prompts. | 1 year | Preferences (optional) |
uf_fonts | Signed-in users only. Records that your browser has already downloaded our fonts so pages load faster. | 1 year | Preferences (optional) |
uf_ref | Remembers the referral code from a ?ref= link so a marketplace purchase can be credited to the referrer. | 30 days | Analytics (optional) |
ph_…_posthog | Set by our analytics provider, PostHog, to measure how the Platform is used. Loaded only after you allow Analytics cookies. | 1 year | Analytics (optional) |
__stripe_mid, __stripe_sid | Set by Stripe on pages that show a payment form, to process payments securely and prevent fraud. | 1 year, 30 minutes | Essential (third party) |
Cloudflare security cookies (for example __cf_bm) | Cloudflare sits in front of the Platform and may set security cookies, such as __cf_bm, to protect it from bots and abuse. Where a page includes Cloudflare Turnstile (our public support-ticket intake form), Cloudflare may set similar security cookies. | Set by Cloudflare (__cf_bm lasts 30 minutes) | Essential (third party) |
3. Third-Party Cookies
Some cookies are set by third-party services that we use to operate the Platform:
Stripe. Our payment processor sets cookies on pages that show a payment form, to process payments securely and prevent fraud. Stripe's use of cookies is governed by their own privacy policy.
Cloudflare. Cloudflare sits in front of the Platform and may set security cookies, such as __cf_bm, to protect it from bots and abuse. These are used for security and are not used for advertising or analytics.
Analytics. Our analytics provider (PostHog) sets a cookie and uses your browser's local storage to measure how the Platform is used. It is loaded only after you allow Analytics cookies.
Embedded video. Where a stream or service listing embeds a video from YouTube, Twitch or Vimeo, that provider loads the video and may set its own cookies when the video loads. These are governed by the provider's own policy, not ours. We load YouTube streams from its privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com) where we can.
We do not use any advertising or behavioural tracking cookies. No data collected through cookies is sold to third parties.
4. Managing Cookies
You have several options for managing cookies:
Cookie Consent Banner. When you first visit UnityFreak, our cookie consent banner lets you choose which categories of cookies to allow: analytics, preferences, or both. You can accept all, reject all non-essential cookies, or customise your choices. Your selection is saved and respected across sessions.
Browser Settings. Most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies through their settings. Please note that blocking essential cookies may prevent you from signing in or using core features of the Platform.
Changing Your Choice. You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie Preferences" link in the footer. Clearing your browser's site data (cookies and site storage) for unityfreak.com also resets your choice and shows the banner again. If you withdraw a category, we delete our own optional cookies it covered and stop analytics capture; the analytics provider's existing cookie expires on its own or when you clear site data.
5. Cookie Duration
Cookies on UnityFreak fall into two groups by duration:
Session Cookies. These are temporary and are deleted when you close your browser. The only session cookie we use is the administrator preview cookie, which ordinary visitors never receive.
Persistent Cookies. These remain on your device for a set period or until you delete them. They are used for preferences, remembering your consent choice, and analytics. Persistent cookies on UnityFreak last from 15 minutes to 1 year depending on their purpose; the exact period for each is in the table above.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. The "Last updated" date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised. Material changes will be communicated through the Platform. Your continued use of the Platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
