1. Who We Are
UnityFreak is an online platform for learning, building, and connecting. You can take courses, share what you create, join communities, and work with other developers.
This privacy notice is written specifically for users aged 16 and 17. It explains what information we collect about you, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. We've kept it simple and straightforward.
2. What Information We Collect
Here is what we know about you when you use UnityFreak:
Account Info
When you sign up, we ask for your email address, a username, and your date of birth. Your date of birth helps us make sure you get the right privacy protections.
What You Create
If you make courses, write posts, or leave comments, we store that content so it can appear on the platform. You control what you publish.
How You Use the Platform
We keep basic records of how you interact with the platform, like which pages you visit and when you log in. This helps us keep the platform running smoothly and spot problems.
3. Why We Collect It
We only collect your information for three reasons:
- To run the platform. We need your email to create your account and your username to identify you. Without this, the platform simply would not work.
- To keep it safe. We use some information to prevent abuse, block spam, and protect you from harmful content or behaviour.
- To improve it. Understanding how people use the platform helps us make things better. If you turn analytics cookies on, our analytics tool looks at general patterns, not at you individually. To fix bugs, if an error happens while you are signed in, our error-monitoring tool records the technical details together with your account ID, email address and username.
4. Who Sees Your Data
Very few people can see your information:
- You — you can always see and manage your own data.
- People you connect with — your profile is private by default. Only users you choose to connect with can see your profile details.
- Stripe — if you make a purchase, our payment provider Stripe handles the payment. They only see what they need to process the transaction.
- Automated safety checks — images you upload are checked automatically for illegal or harmful content. To do this, each image is sent to a service run by Amazon Web Services in the United States. If an image is flagged as possibly harmful, a person reviews it before a decision is made. Illegal imagery that we confirm is removed and may be reported to the authorities. Direct messages are also checked automatically: a message that contains a phone number, email address or social media handle is not delivered, the attempt is recorded on the sender's account, and repeated attempts may lead to a review of that account. Messages involving under-18 accounts are also checked for severely abusive language.
- Service providers. We use other companies to run the platform. They are listed in our Privacy Policy.
- No selling. We do not sell, rent, or give away your data to anyone.
5. Your Privacy Defaults
Because you are under 18, we automatically set stricter privacy settings for your account:
- Profile is private. A private or connections-only profile is not listed in UnityFreak search and is not indexed by search engines such as Google.
- Connections-only messaging. Only people you have accepted as connections can send you direct messages.
- No marketing emails. We will not send you promotional emails. You only receive important account notifications.
- No analytics tracking. We do not use analytics cookies on your account unless you specifically choose to enable them.
You can change some of these settings in your account, but we think the defaults are the safest option. When you turn 18 the extra protections for young users stop applying to your account, but we do not change your privacy settings for you: they stay exactly as they are until you change them in your settings.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to:
- See your data. You can view most of the information we hold about you in your account settings, and you can ask us for a copy of all of it.
- Download it. You can request a copy of all your data in a portable format.
- Delete your account. You can delete your account at any time. When you do, we remove your name, username, email and profile details; things you posted may stay, without your name, unless you ask us to delete them.
- Change your mind. If you gave us permission for something (like optional cookies), you can take that permission back at any time.
These rights are free to use and we will never penalise you for exercising them.
7. Parental Consent
If you are under 18 you can create an account and use the platform without parental consent. Before you can make any payment, a parent or guardian must confirm consent through an emailed link. Until they have, you cannot make payments through the platform, including purchases, subscriptions, tips and gifts.
Your parent or guardian can contact us at any time at [email protected] to ask questions about your account or request changes to your data.
